WELCOME

The Parish of St Hugh and St John, Timperley, is in the Diocese of Shrewsbury, and, together with St Vincent's, Altrincham, and Holy Angels, Hale Barns, forms part of the Altrincham Pastoral Area (Local Pastoral Area 15 in the Diocesan scheme).

The parish under this title came into being on 8th June 2009 when the two former parishes of St Hugh of Lincoln, West Timperley, and St John the Baptist, Timperley, were amalgamated. St Hugh’s parish was established in 1930, an offshoot of St Vincent ’s in Altrincham. St John’s parish began in 1957 when the Timperley Village area, formerly part of St Hugh’s, became a separate parish in its own right. Sadly for that community, the dwindling number of priests and the need to use resources more effectively and economically, resulted in the closure of St John the Baptist Church and the re-union of the parish with that of St Hugh’s.

The parish boundary encompasses an area of mixed housing, in which a great deal of new development has taken place in recent years resulting in many more apartments and houses. It is good to see lots of young families and children worshipping here each Sunday in our church dedicated to St Hugh of Lincoln, and the parish is blessed with an outstanding Primary School, St Hugh’s Catholic Primary, which serves as a feeder school for the three Catholic High Schools in the Altrincham area, Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College (mixed), Loreto Grammar School (girls only), and St Ambrose College (boys only).

Whether you have recently moved into the area or been around for some time, or are simply visiting these parts, we hope you will join our community to share in our life and worship. We look forward to seeing you, and assure you of a warm welcome.
